Pavement Crack Saw

What causes a pavement to crack? - ACPA

For this possibility, a crack must exist that extends below the saw cut. If there is no crack meeting the saw cut, then late sawing or subbase restraint is likely the cause of the uncontrolled crack. In some cases a crack may wander in and out of a saw cut above a doweled joint (Figure 2D).

Cutting Asphalt: The Why and The How

Sweep the area you will be working clear of all debris, so your saw doesn't catch on pebbles and rocks. Remember – safety first! Step #2: Mark Your Cutting Lines. You will need to cut where the pavement is still in good shape. In other words, don't just cut out the damaged area – widen your cutting zone a bit so you've got good solid edges.

Early Cracking of Concrete Pavement - causes and repairs

Theoretical and practical studies have shown that the optimum joint spacing depends upon the slab thickness, aggregates, subbase, and climate. Pavement with long transverse joint spacing may crack at locations other than the saw cuts due to tensile stresses from temperature curling.

Important Things to Know In Cutting Asphalt

Jul 07, 2015 · While the blade is still running during asphalt cutting, remember never to turn the saw because this will only break the blade. After-which, you are now ready to remove the damaged portion. Cable tip: One straight cut path is required when cutting the pavement to run a cable. First mark, then cut, lay the cable and eventually fill the crack.

The ability to adequately saw pavement without excessive raveling and before uncontrolled cracking, depends upon design features, mixture materials, jointing techniques and environmental circumstances.

Saw & Seal – The Pavement Network

In areas where temperature fluctuations are very severe (upper tier of United States), the saw and seal method is ideal for increasing the longevity of asphalt pavement. By installing control joints in the new pavement and sealing the joints, the expansion and contraction process tends to cause many less random cracks in the pavement.

Saw-Cutting Guidelines for Concrete Pavements: Examining ...

Joints are placed in Portland cement pavements (PCCP) to control random cracking. These joints provide a weakened plane that enables a crack to form in a controlled manner, relieving residual stresses that develop when thermal, hygral, or hydration movements are resisted by sub grade and adjoining pavement. While the concept of creating a weakened plane through saw-cutting is ...
